With a band like Genesis, who have so much recorded material to listen to, some people might like to choose to make their own compilations of favourite tracks. A particular favourite of mine is what I call the 'Almost Instrumental' album, which is (obviously) the best (in my opinion) of all the best of the Genesis instrumentals but with a little twist. I have done my own edits of some of the tracks (using the excellent Nero Wave Editor); as with the end section of The Cinema Show from Seconds Out and the middle section of Firth Of Fifth (also from Seconds Out). Before any of you scream 'Sacrilege!' you should know that I got the idea from the edited section of Second Home By The Sea which appears on the Congo cd single (and, curiously, doesn't appear on any other Genesis Compilation or Anthology, as far as I know). This really is, for me, a brilliant album, and clocking in at over an hour, something that I can really enjoy on a journey or when I'm relaxing at home. The track list is as follows:
01 HORIZONS (1.39)
from the FOXTROT album
02 UNQUIET SLUMBERS FOR THE SLEEPERS…
…IN THAT QUIET EARTH (7.14)
from the WIND AND WUTHERING album
03 INSIDE AND OUT  (2.39) end section
from the SPOT THE PIGEON ep
04 IT’S YOURSELF (3.10) end section
‘b’ side of YOUR OWN SPECIAL WAY 7” single
05 SECOND HOME BY THE SEA (5.01) middle section
second track on the CONGO cd single
06 PHRET (4.06)
second track on the SHIPWRECKED cd single
07 7/8 (5.10)
third track on the SHIPWRECKED cd single
08 THE CINEMA SHOW (4.49) end section
from the SECONDS OUT live album
09 LOS ENDOS (5.47)
from the TRICK OF THE TAIL  album
10 FIRTH OF FIFTH (5.09) middle section
from the SECONDS OUT live album
11 WOT GORILLA? (3.20)
from the  WIND AND WUTHERING album
12 THE BRAZILIAN (4.51)
from the INVISIBLE TOUCH album
13 DUKE’S TRAVELS/DUKE’S END (10.48)
from the DUKE album
14 AFTERGLOW (1.06) end section
from the WIND AND WUTHERING album

So go on, then. Tell us about yours!

Interesting compilation there and0001 (and welcome to the forum!)

I've always loved the instrumentals, from the outset of my love of Genesis, esp. the Tony Banks inspired stuff. Interesting that you have so many CAS tracks, not many people appreciate those all that much.

I have an old cassette somewhere of PG tracks I made up, I think it was all b-sides, but I wore that thing to a thread. Have to go dig it up if I still have it, although I vaguely remember it getting destroyed at a party or something.

I've yet to do mine, but this is a great bootleg compiled by dR......

Name: LOST FOR WORDS: GENESIS INSTRUMENTALS
Description:
I actually did this just for myself because when I'm working I sometimes find it difficult to concentrate when I hear voices/lyrics. I'm a writer so hearing PG ramble on about Lamias and PC ramble on about Dodos can completely throw me.

But of course I need my Genesis fix, hence this torrent: a selection of instrumentals by Genesis from live, studio and rehearsal sessions.

Hope you like it; it's just a bit of fun,

dR
